The Dude Abides

Bowling was just like this great movie Bowling was just like this great movie

I’d like to thank all of the Camille Toes who made my birthday the special date that it deserves to be.  Those of you at the viewing party at the Banshee, which was fantastic, and those who came bowling at Lanes & Games on Sunday night, I appreciate it.  Also, you’re welcome for my gracing you with my presence.

The match on Saturday went pretty well.  If it didn’t come off the back of two miserable performances then we would have all commended ... Continue Reading

Everybody Loves A Good Conspiracy Theory

Who doesn’t? You get that feeling that you know what’s really going in the world and “the civilians” don’t. Conspiracy theories are older thanTony Meola’s Weight Watchers’ membership for a reason. They spread, they get digested into the culture, they become something your older brother tells you about when he thinks you’re old enough. As long as you don’t really believe Radio Shack is asking you personal information to use later when they kidnap and build a moon base for the elite, you’re ok.

Can we get a Revs DP in here? Can we get ... Continue Reading

Tailgating for Champions

Well the time has come and gone for the Revolution this season, and for the first time in 7 years, they will not make a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals.

All in all, you have to look at it as a positive campaign, even thought the ultimate goal was not reached. The loss of players a certain times in the year seemed to have just enough impact to erase the Revs hopes of reaching the MLS Cup for an unprecidented fourth straight year. Fortunately, the tailgating season does not stop there as you can easily replace the pain of seeing ... Continue Reading

Tailgating Off Topic?

First things first - TeamOps security is the biggest fucking joke I have ever encountered.

That being said, I have decided to turn this week’s blog into…

Tailgating: SuperLiga Style

Sunday 7/13 vs Santos Laguna: A

Oh man. A late game start is the first ingredient to an absolutely glorious tailgate. The second is weather. Now if you have been reading my posts vigorously, you know how much I have been complaining about the lack of cooperation from Mother Nature for our pre-game festivities. Not on Sunday though. The sun was shining, the wind was calm, not a cloud in the sky. ... Continue Reading

Kicker to Vicar and other various soccer thoughts

This blog entry was God’s will, honest…

Farewell, Chase Hilgenbrinck. You accounted for yourself well in your brief time in the Revs’ red, white, and blue but now you are off to the clergy. I hope we get some allocation money or at least some cash considerations in return. One thing is certain, Chase, you willl be in my prayers to the Flying Spaghetti Monster in the Sky.

Hilgenbrinck’s departure, all future sainthood aside, appears to be the type of transaction that you find in small print at the end of the sports page. Hilgenbrinck is just a ... Continue Reading

Revs Leave Home

The U.S. Open Cup is a rarity in the soccer scene in this country. It’s a tournament with rich history (something we’re short on with soccer here) that goes all the way back to 1912 when Sir Thomas Dewar bequeathed a trophy to spur interest in the sport on this side of The Pond. The tournament has survived leagues coming and going. It is one of the oldest knock-out domestic cups in all of world soccer. New England, in particular, has a big role in the history of the Cup with legendary teams like the Fall River Rovers, Fall ... Continue Reading

Front Office Follies, Or How I Rewrote This 3 Times To Remove The Profanities.

Have you folks seen the Dish Network commercials with John Michael Higgins (Marty from “Evan Almighty” or the voice of Mentok The Mindtaker on “Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law” for my Adult Swim friends) as the stupid cable company executive? The one who addresses problems like angry customers with ideas like just getting new customers or distracting customers with cheerleaders? They’re funny to a degree. Oh, har har, nobody’s company is run by people that disconnected right?

Uhm, right. Except this year we’ve discovered that the Revolution are being run by people who’s proclamations scarily mirror those of Higgins’ farcical network ... Continue Reading

90 Minutes, Three Chords, And The Truth

author’s note: This piece originally appeared as part of Mr. Fran Harrington’s final for his art school degree and is reprinted here with his kind permission. Also because I wanted more people than just his professors to read it.

In the middle of the seventh decade of the 20th century, those vaunted Seventies, young people in the Western World rose up against the established cocaine-and-caviar cruise control rock and roll was set on and began a movement later known worldwide as punk rock. In it’s heyday “punks” were scoffed at, attacked in the street, their records banned, their singles and ... Continue Reading

I’ll try my best to be gentle since it’s your first time.

So here I am with a new blog on a site that I have no idea how many people read. I know the subject has to be the New England Revolution but other than that the choice is mine. With no real direction and the knowledge that my writing will be compared with the other bloggers on this site I know that I need to figure out my niche. I had hoped that this would come easy, I would sit down and the idea would just jump into my head. I know I don’t possess the Matt Reis-like wit ... Continue Reading
