Riders: Ignoring moments of silence since 2009…

Kdawg, member of the Midnight Riders since 2009.  It’s not a coincidence.  He was just having too much fun to realize that he was in the midst of a moment of silence for some dead base jumper.  You really can’t be mad at him though, first of all he’s the Big Toe, and second of all, he made it into the stadium this time.  He really showed a lot of courage, hard work, and sticktoitivness to return to the scene of his first epic Revs Tailgate meltdown.  But this time, things were different.  He drank ... On the Road Again?

I write this as a homage to all the Riders who headed down to dirty Jersey last weekend. This is for the men, women, and children, who threw themselves into the pit, simply known as The Swamp.

Now I have traveled to this gloomy destination as many times as my young life would allow, and each time it has fit its bill tremendously. Overcast skies, cold rain, and dumpster aroma, all contribute to this aura of awesomeness. And by awesomeness, I mean complete dump. Lets face it, Giants Stadium got its nickname because it was literally placed in the middle of ... Continue Reading

Where in New York is New Jersey?

Thanks for reading Maya. I'll show you my soccer poetry sometime this weekend. Thanks for reading Maya. I'll show you my soccer poetry sometime this weekend.

This is the last blog post before I leave for Manhattan on Friday and then subsequently The Swamp for the weekend so I’ll just touch on a few things to look out for in the coming days.  Remember, The Rider Insider isn’t just a place to trade stories with the great thinkers of the mondern ear like Maya Angelou and myself, it is also a place to find the ... Sorry!

DJ's, more stds than Twellman's hot tub. DJ's, more stds than Twellman's hot tub.

Sorry for the long absence from the blog.  I appreciate the emails concerned with my whereabouts.  I was fine, just a little busy with life and thinking about life and recovering from my coke binge in the DJ’s bathroom.   Speaking of DJ’s, if anyone sees that cocktail waitress ask her what this rash is all about, I’ve tried Gold Bond and Desitin and it still feels like I’m sitting in a small brush fire.

I ... Continue Reading

No Reservations. . .

I write as I channel the great, intelligent, and articulate Anthony Bourdain…

Do you smell what I smell? Do you see what I see?

That chicken breast is juicy and plump, dressed in the fabulous gown known as Italian spices and garlic herbs that have been soaked in lemon juices ready to be taken off by your palette that has been watering for almost half a year.

Those steak tips have been marinating in the fridge for a while now, and you cant wait to throw them into the crock-pot where they will absorb even the tiniest amounts of carrot, potato, ... Continue Reading

Tailgating for Champions

Well the time has come and gone for the Revolution this season, and for the first time in 7 years, they will not make a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals.

All in all, you have to look at it as a positive campaign, even thought the ultimate goal was not reached. The loss of players a certain times in the year seemed to have just enough impact to erase the Revs hopes of reaching the MLS Cup for an unprecidented fourth straight year. Fortunately, the tailgating season does not stop there as you can easily replace the pain of seeing ... Continue Reading

Despite what they tell you…

There will be a viewing party at a bar for the first Revs game of the season. Even though the team’s media outlet won’t admit it on their blog:

Jim - Away game viewings will happen, but a 10:30 p.m. game on a Saturday is hard to plan with a bar no matter what game it is.

Look for full details on the Revs’ away game viewings soon …

That’s from the editor of the Revs official blog, thankfully someone followed up with the details that we’ve posted here and you’ve seen on Big Soccer and the Rider’s site.  As a friendly reminder, ... Continue Reading

DJ Gemini and the Midnight Riders!

Sorry I didn’t post last night.  I was too busy cooking a delicious pizza and playing indoor soccer at 11 pm.  I was exhausted.  I am sorry.  I’m glad you all took the extra 24 hours without a post to debate whether or not I am racist.  I know the answer, but I’m not going to tell you until someone makes a really good argument for or against.  Consider it the second contest after the “Give the passionate fan’s a nickname” contest, which was won by Fran, age 12, from Jamaica Plain with his ... The McDerby at Gillette Stadium

Yeah I stole that title from BrianLBI on BigSoccer but it does go a long way to describe the “derby” that has just been scheduled today at Gillette Stadium for July 25th.  The New York Times is reporting that AC Milan and Inter Milan will be a part of a summer tour that will also see Inter and Jose Mourinho take on Chelsea in San Fransisco.   At first glance it seems like it could be a great match.  Both of those teams have some of the best players in the world ... I can’t wait to meet my Ticket Rep!

————————————

I finally got outside today and played some soccer after work with my friend Kdawg.  If The Camille Toes does, in fact, become the nickname for my endearing fans then K would be the big toe.  For those of you who don’t know him, he was the one sleeping on the bus in the Meadowlands two years ago while the rest of us were in the stadium cheering on the Revs.  If that still doesn’t ring a bell I imagine you will become quite intimate with him through this blog as he is my right ...
